I drafted a post a while back about the hypocrisy of condemning Bill Clinton's sexual escapades, but excusing Donald Trump's vile and degrading conduct towards women. I didn't publish it.
I drafted a post a while back about the hypocrisy of justifying the capital protests (riots?), but condemning the protests in Minnesota. I didn't publish it.
I drafted a post a while back about the hypocrisy of proclaiming Kyle Rittenhouse's 2nd amendment rights to bring a gun to a protest, but suddenly claiming Alex Pretti had no such right. I didn't publish it.
But after this tweet from Franklin Graham tonight, I can't stay quiet any longer.
The headliner for TPUSA's halftime show is Kid Rock. Does Franklin Graham not know who Kid Rock is? Has he not read any of his lyrics? Kid Rock has made a living off songs that are sexually explicit, profane, and glorify a godless and deviant lifestyle. I can't even read most of his lyrics in mixed company. Or even unmixed company for that matter. Trust me, they're awful.
So how in good conscience can we advocate for a show highlighting such rubbish? Yes, I know, Kid Rock will probably not perform any of those songs; he will only sing the a few hand-picked songs that fit the moment. But we should know by now, if you get cozy with a viper, you will get bit.
Our litmus test is no longer the words of Jesus, or Paul, or any other author in the Bible. No, our litmus test is now, "well, it's not left..." What a pathetically low bar. We seem to have this "little brother" mentality that compels us to try and imitate the world instead of imitating Jesus Christ.
I'm sure there's an entire article (book?) to be written about the Republican party long ago abandoning the foundational principles of conservatism. The party of Reagan this is not. But unfortunately, we are also witnessing the same thing happen with western evangelicalism, as we slowly abandon the foundational principles of Biblical Christianity. Here's the thing. I'm not here to rant against Kid Rock. And I'm certainly not here to apologize for Bad Bunny. They're just two sides of the same coin. Like someone else said, it's "pick your favorite heathen half-time show." :)
I'm here to call out Evangelicals for not holding high our counter-cultural mandate to be salt and light. To be different. To be the hands and feet of Christ. It's time we took that responsibility seriously.
"Don’t become partners with those who reject God. How can you make a partnership out of right and wrong? That’s not partnership; that’s war. Is light best friends with dark? Does Christ go strolling with the Devil? Do trust and mistrust hold hands? Who would think of setting up pagan idols in God’s holy Temple? But that is exactly what we are, each of us a temple in whom God lives." - 2 Corinthians 6:14-16b (NLT)
